BREIF OVERVIEW OF HOLY CROSS PARISH BUGEMBE
The parish is located in Bugembe along Jinja – Malaba Highway 3Km from jinja Town. It was started by the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1990 and it has the following centers.
- Bugembe, St. Luke
- Wanyange, St. Andrew
- Buwekula, St. Jude
- Kalungami, St. Kizito
- Budumbuli, St. Augustine (Proposed)
- Wairaka, (Proposed)

We would like to thank God for the pioneer Christians who had zeal for the Catholic faith in Bugembe area. We cannot fail to mention Nantenza, the one who offered her premises where she could lead the fellow Catholics in worship. No wonder she is the only lay Christian buried in a holy cross cemetery in the whole world where holy cross serves. She planted the seed of faith which was later to be watered by the holy cross missionaries with Fr. Bob Hesse CSC as pioneer of Holy Cross work in Jinja. May the souls of these zealous Catholics rest in Peace!
Like many churches, Holy Cross Parish in Bugembe, Jinja, Uganda, is more than a place for Catholics to attend Mass on Sundays. It is an oasis of peace, hope, spiritual support and fellowship in a community of both employed and unemployed and all levels of people. The parish campus is a dynamic gathering place for students, small faith communities, choirs and other community groups.

The Parish has several lay apostolic movements and these include. Married Couples, Women, Men, Youths, Legion of Mary, St. Jude, PMC, Charismatic Renewal, Purgatory, Sacred Heart of Jesus and “I thirst” for the needy in addition to BUCHAM for HIV/ AIDS programs.
As part of its outreach efforts, Holy Cross Parish runs the four primary schools where children can both play and learn; a HIV/AIDS program (BUCHAM); a volunteer counseling and testing center; “I Thirst” program for the poor, elderly and needy, and a Youth Centre. The church also provides food and clothing for the needy.
Holy cross family ministries office deals with family life in the parish i.e. home visits, seminars and workshops on marriage and formation programs for couples and spiritual counseling to parishioners.
